Optical filters are devices that manipulate visible and invisible light. They are categorized into notch, short pass, and long pass filtering, and can also be divided into cut and block filtering. In the simplest form, they are used as plastic or glass planes that selectively transmit light of certain wavelengths. These are also used in the manufacturing of color displays, such as televisions and optical printers.

When it comes to our optical filter glasses, they include the following filter types in the wavelength range above 200 nm: bandpass filters, shortpass filters, longpass filters, neutral density filters, and notch filters.

The bandpass filters block all but a particular wavelength. The width of such a filter is expressed in the wavelength range it lets through and can be anything from much less Angstrom to a few hundred nanometers. A shortpass filter is an optical interference or colored glass filter. It attenuates longer wavelengths and transmits (passes) shorter wavelengths over the active range of the target spectrum (usually the ultraviolet or visible region). A longpass filter is an optical interference or colored glass filter. It attenuates shorter wavelengths and transmits (passes) longer wavelengths over the active range of the target spectrum (ultraviolet, visible, or infrared).

Moreover, neutral density filters have a constant attenuation across the range of visible wavelengths, and are used to reduce the intensity of light by reflecting or absorbing a portion of it. Finally, notch filters pass all frequencies except those in a stop band centered on a center frequency.

When it comes to our polymer filters, we offer laser scanner filters, which are used in both handheld and stationary laser scanners as you might find in the supermarket. They are used to enhance the sensitivity of the laser to read the barcodes and also to protect from harmful radiation to the end user. They are set for various wavelengths to accommodate the type of laser being used.

We also provide ultraviolet cut and pass filters. UV cut filters are used to block UV emissions and pass all others. There are five types of UV cut filters from 370nm to 480nm available with non-glare and scratch resistant coatings. UV pass filters, on the other hand, block all other wavelengths and pass only UV transmits ultraviolet (80% at 300nm) and offers excellent optical characteristics without double refraction available with non-glare and scratch resistant coatings.

In addition, Phillips Safety also has near infrared pass filters. IR transmits NIR and blocks visible light. There are five types of NIR filters which transmit above 700nm to 820nm. They have excellent optical characteristics without double refraction available with non-glare and scratch resistant coatings.
